We don’t sledge on purpose, says James Pattinson – Cricket News Update
Australia’s young fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653, has expressed that his team does not go out there with an intention to sledge the opposition batsman and understands that assessing the conditions and implementation of the plans are the only way to succeed
in international cricket.
The 22-year-old cricketer was the only pacer from both the sides who impressed during the recently-concluded Brisbane Test, picking up five scalps in flat batting conditions.
There are some former cricketers as well as South Africa’s premier batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HM-Amla-c1557, who have recently questioned the home team’s approach in the field, alleging that the Kangaroos’ fast bowlers cross limits while trying to intimidate the batsmen.
Pattinson however, believes that his side never does that on purpose but feels that sledging does help at times to unnerve a batsman.
“If you can see a way in by sledging someone when you're out there then definitely, by all means it's probably a good thing,” said the young fast bowler. “But one thing we don't do is purposely go out there and say we're going to get in the ear of this batsman
or that batsman. We didn't have a plan to go out there and give them stuff.”
The Victorian speedster bowled a hostile spell on day 5 of the match as he had an exchange of words with the Proteas’ skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rob-Quiney-c2340.
Pattinson admits that sledging is a double-edged sword as it can go in favour of a batsman as well, helping him to be more focused. Being a true professional, the talented cricketer is of the view that a bowler must have the capacity to adapt to different
circumstances, if he wants to enjoy success at the highest stage of the game.
“When you go out there and purposely try and do stuff like that, then sometimes it does backfire. It's all about reading the conditions, reading what is happening in the game and then going from there,” he added.
The second Test of the three-match series is going to commence from November 22, at the Adelaide Oval, with the battle still square at 0-0.
