The home team won the first two matches of the series and looked favourites at one stage to dismantle the Caribbean men, much to the surprise of cricket fans all around the globe. Sammy and company however, bounced back and won the
third and the fourth fixtures to square the battle 2-2, with the last encounter scheduled to be played today at Mirpur.
Bangladesh had West Indies on the mat in the fourth match, having picked up their top six wickets for just 102 runs, before the visiting side’s skipper played out of his skin, scoring 60 unbeaten runs off merely 62 balls in which he
struck five fours and two massive sixes. West Indies posted a respectable total of 211 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets because of their captain’s brilliance.
At the half-way stage, Bangladesh were tipped to chase down the total without much of a fuss but that was not to be, with the home team’s top-order batting falling like a house of cards, losing five wickets for just 13 runs on the board.
Bangladesh were bundled out for just 136 runs in the 35th over of the innings as a result, handing over a comprehensive victory to Sammy and company.
Mushfiqur feels that his side did a good job restricting the visitors to just 211, although they fielded poorly, and rightly blamed his batsmen for the debacle. The Bangladesh captain was all praise for his West Indian counterpart during
the post-match presentation ceremony.
He expressed, “Bowlers did a good job, we dropped too many catches and that is where we lost out, the wicket was not too difficult to chase but we collapsed at the start. all the fielders tried hard, but too many mistakes made, Sammy
played really well. Knew they would come hard with the new ball but failed to step up. We have one more chance to win the series tomorrow.”
