Question:

We found a baby blue jay Help me.?

when i came home from my dads works my mom saw my cat running after somthing and we realized it was a baby blue jay and then its momma bird was calling for it and it was calling for its mom but the mom could not find it.

then it jumped into the other yard and me and my mom hurd like the bird creaming and so we go next door and we found it but then the mom still did not find it so me and mom took it and we have it now and we gane it food like crushed up cat food mixed with water and sucked it up in the sur-reng and fed it to him/her and it took it but like. also it cant fly yet and like we are ganna have to rase it up intill it can fly.

Do u have any tips that we could do to help it live intill it can fly and live on his/her own??

  1. If the bird is fully feathered, it is most likely a fledgling and has left the nest on it's own and it's parents are caring for it. It is normal for birds to leave the nest before they can fly.   You need to replace it where you found it..preferably in a scrub or tree so it is relatively safe from predators, and the parents should come back to feed it.  If it is unfeathered...then look for a nest and if you can find it...replace it into the nest.  Do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched.  If you cannot find a nest, get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival.  Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own.  Look for a rehab here:

    Also, if the cat wounded this bird..it needs to go to a rehab right away as cats carry a lot of bacteria in their saliva and infection will set in quickly.
