We found a black and brown lizard with white spots hiding in some bark. What sort of lizard is it?

It is about 5cm long and its tail is black with white stripes. Its body is brown with the odd black stripe and covered with white spots.

Go to your public library and get a reptile ID book for your area.  Find a picture that seems to match and then check the map to see if that one appears in your area.  If so, it is probably a match!  It's not hard and you may find other animals you've seen.  You'll learn a lot too.
