  1. Maybe an Eastern Hognose Snake, although without knowing what country/state you're in, it's only a guess. If it's an Eastern Hognose Snake, they are harmless, but will put on a threat display if they feel threatened. If that doesn't work, they'll play dead and hope the threat goes away.

    A small, brown snake with keeled dorsal scales. The dorsum varies in color from dark brown to tan, often a lighter line of coloration runs down the spine. The venter is light gray to pink, often with small black dots. Adult total length 240-390 mm.

    Northern brown snakes flourish in disturbed habitats, and are found throughout Connecticut. They are most abundant in the more developed portions of the state, even in vacant lots in some of Connecticut's largest cities. In forested areas of the state, these snakes are more localized, and often restricted to small patches of disturbance such as found along roadways and railroad tracks or along the edges of fields. The brown snake is presently secure within Connecticut.
