maybe.....because i think that for the car you have sort of crouch whereas the others you have to climb or take the stairs....

because everything other than your own car is public transport of some sort...& you 'board' it.

as you are boarding public transport as part of a contract between you & the carrier when you purchased your ticket you are therefore "on board".

as there is no ticket required to travel in a private motor car,you are an occupant,therefore inside!

I suppose it's because you walk onto a train, bus or plane but you have to bend down to get into a car.

well suppose in a car we open and close doors ourselves    therefore in.   Public transport  someone else does the  opening and closing usually .

when you get in a car you open the door and sit straight down. When you get on a bus plane or train, you step on it walk a distance and then sit down.Does that make any sense.
