We get prank phone calls....HELP?

We're not Canadian and we get a number of calls from the US and other countries frequently. Everybody uses phone cards and they don't always work very well and sometimes, we can't hear the person calling or vice versa.

This is one possibility for the numerous calls we've got. Nobody speaks and it doesn't sound like it's from anywhere because there's no noise. It's completely silent.

I know one person who could be prank-calling us. Wait, I know two. One of whom can be dangerous, but since he's not in Canada, we're not particularly worried yet.

Should I call the police? Do they give me the number without getting involved? Because I seriously have to check. I don't want to get our relatives in trouble.

I think you're able to call the operator and for a $5 dollar charge, they'll give you the phone number.

A lot of times when there is no one on the other end of the line, it is an auto dialer that is just checking if there is any one home and if it is a working number. When this  occurs just tap your # key several times and it will kick your number out of the system.

Or you could keep a whistle next to the phone and blow it when they call and they get an ear full of really loud whistle music.

you could also do auto call return, *69 I think.  Then talk to whomever is on the phone.  If they not answer you will at least have the number on your next phone bill of who you called.
