We got a dvd stuck in our player and were quoted a flat rate of $40 to fix plus labour cost...

is it worth it or shud we jsut buy a new one?

  1. It is NOT worth the cost unless it is a specialized DVD like a recorder model or a TV/DVD or the DVD is not replaceable.

    If a stand alone DVD you should be able to get the DVD out yourself. Just take off the case a (couple of screws)  an lift off the case and you should have access to the DVD.

Go for the latest brand of DVD with all the new features that you wanted.  :-) else you might do what I did when this happened with my player.  First time was when it was under the warranty and I got it repaired at the store.  They did it in front of me... opened the player and pushed the tray with the tester which caused it to open.  The second time it was after the warranty period so I did it myself and it was fixed.  Only be very careful because you have to switch on the power after you open it and then push the tray.  If you are not experienced with handling electricity then please buy the new DVD player.
