  1. What it means is that it is capable (with the right extra equipment) of displaying a High Definition TV Picture.

It is basically a monitor (just like or computer monitor) it does not have any type of tuner in it.

For TV you will need some type of digital tuner with an output that is compatible with your monitor. For HD TV you need an HD tuner. A cable box with High Definition cable subscription is great.

For Video -  DVD-or Video Game or computer it is ready to go. Use the best output cable that you can support-  See Below.

HDMI is a special digital Video/Audio cable for High Definition monitors.  Make sure that your equipment can use this type of cable. It is the best if your equipments supports it.

PS3's use HDMI.   It supports the full HD spectrum.

HD is defined as  vertical resolution of 1080 (either i or p) with p being the best.

Regular TV has a vertical resolution of  480-  so anything over that will look better than regular TV.

Cables to use if you have the choice from Best to OK

    HDMI- Best

Even Better - Component Video RGB + 2 audio

    Better- S -Video

Good RCA Composite Video (3 wire Yellow, Red, White)

    OK- Coax Cable

  2. It appears that you have an HD television, but are not getting any HD programs now?  If you are getting HD programs (from cable or satellite) that will not change and you don't need a converter.

The only reason for a converter is if you get your programs from an antenna.  If that is the case, you need a digital converter to receive any broadcasts after Feb 2009.  However, if you buy one of the cheap converter boxes (such as the ones you get with the government coupon), that will not give you HD--it will just be standard definition digital broadcast.  You need to get a full HDTV tuner (made by Samsung) to get real HDTV.  See http://reviews.cnet.com/tv-hdtv-tuners-r...

If you get an xbox or ps3, connect it using either component (red/blue/green cable) or HDMI.  There is not a lot of difference, although HDMI is preferred.  But you can do this only if your TV has HDMI inputs.  Older TVs usually had only one HDMI input (if any), so reserve that for the HDTV tuner and used component cables for the other units.
