Is there another simple fix that we can do? Can a circuit breaker 'burn out' or something?

  1. find out what is connected to that circuit, it may be shorted causing a safety issue and the circuit breaker is just doing it's job.  Also you may not have reset the breaker all the way - push it all the way to the off position then back to the on - when it trips it's between both. If that doesn't fix it I recommend getting an electrician to look at it or a friend who is somewhat knowledgeable about power panels and breakers. A few bucks isn't worth your life.

  2. The breaker is possibly burnt out and should be replaced.  I don't think you need a license electrician to do this but ensure that bus bar is not live or the effects can be lethal.  But get advice from a licensed electrician about increasing the breaker amperage it the wiring allow for it.

  3. I believe your problem is a GFCI receptacle ( outlet ).Most building codes require that any receptacle exposed to water must be GFCI protected. Some builders have the electrician install a GFCI breaker in the breaker ( service ) panel. Others will install individual GFCI receptacles in each area. Still others will have one installed at the beginning of a circuit. These areas will include any exterior receptacles, garage, kitchen within 6' of the sink and bathrooms. It is also possible to find one in a studded bath area of an unfinished basement. My guess is that the circuit that the bath is on has one at the beginning of the circuit that needs to be reset.

  4. Circuit breakers do die.  I think the "life" is about the same as humans; 40 years for some and more for others.

  5. I suppose its not impossible that it could be burnt out But I've never actually seen one do it..Usually what happens is they get "weak" from being overloaded to many times. The breaker will trip under a lighter and lighter load over time. Two obvious questions come to mind.

1.Are you sure you're resetting the right breaker?

2.Did you check the whole circuit? Bc it may have fried a wire to an individual outlet or switch.

  6. David's probably right.  Look for an outlet with the buttons on it.  It's probably lit up showing the it's been tripped.  Push the button in and when the light goes out everything should work again.  Resetting the breaker wouldn't fix this problem.
