We had to move up our barbeque to announce our engagement until tomorrow?

We are hosting a barbeque for our friends and families tomorrow night (it was supposed to be Saturday night but my friend is being induced on Saturday at noon and we are the godparents so we want to be there and will have to travel). We aren't sure what to say. How exactly do we announce our engagement? My mom already knows since a friend that saw my ring told her (Don't you hate grocery stores? They ruin surprises!) So since mom knows, I'm afraid she'll tell everyone before we get the chance! What do we say to everyone? We aren't sure how to announce this. What is your advice?

If I were you I'd announce your engagement like this:

Hello! I'd like to thank everyone for coming and being here. This barbeque was planned for something more thank smoked food. I'd like to tell you all that I'm getting married! (Announce date if planned) And greet everyone and tell how excited you are and if you want to tell some details of when he asked you. They'd like that and if they could get to know your fiance a bit better.

I would still go ahead with the barbeque just pour a drink and annnounce it at the beginning rather than at the end MOM probably has told other people but only because she is so excited it still wont take it away from you from announcing it OFFICIALLY to all your friends & family just go for it and enjoy

Just tell everyone that you have an announcement to make.  "We're so glad you could make it here today because we have some important news to share with you.  Brad and I just recently got engaged."

Your mother probably didn't blab as she likely gets what your BBQ is for.
