We are cashing in Marriott reward points and can stay at a resort directly in San Jose in April or we can stay at Los Suenos Marriott on the central Pacific Coast in May. Which should we do? Is traffic a problem is San Jose?

  1. I would definitely go with the Pacific coast. Its a very beautiful area with great beaches.  San Jose is maybe not as bad as the other poster implies, but it isn't anything special really.

  2. Traffic, especialy with those awful streets full of potholes, crime, pollution, prostitution, ect. are all problems in San Jose. I suggest you stay at the Los Sueños Marriott instead of San Jose.

Los Sueños Marriott is an Ocean & Golf Resort, so if you like the beach, casinos and golf, instead of traffic, crime, pollution and prostitution, you know where to head. It is also near some of the best beaches on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica (Quepos, Cabo Blanco and Carrillo). If you plan on visiting site around the area where Los Sueños is located you can visit: the Arenal Volcano, Tabacon Hot Springs, Bijagual Waterfalls and Manuel Antonio National Park. Also near  you can go white-water rafting and enjoy visiting a Mangrove where there are tons of crocodiles along the Tarcoles River. San Jose is a dirty city with nothing much to do and is located in the central part of the country so the nearest beach would take you at least an hour or two.

  3. Both Marriott hotels are very beautiful.  However, there are more things to do at Los Suenos than in San Jose (where traffic is a problem indeed).

Los Suenos is about 2 hours from San Jose and is located in a beautiful setting.  The beach is hardly a beach, though.  But you can take nice cruises from its marina, or you could visit other nearby beaches, such as Punta Leona and Manuel Antonio.
