  1. call the police hmmm......

call ur local wild life reserve, rspca animal organisation ect.

  2. If the bird is fully feathered, it is most likely a fledgling and has left the nest on it's own and it's parents are caring for it. It is normal for birds to leave the nest before they can fly.   You need to replace it where you found it..preferably in a scrub or tree so it is relatively safe from predators, and the parents should come back to feed it.  If it is unfeathered...then look for a nest and if you can find it...replace it into the nest.  Do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched.  If you cannot find a nest, get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival.  Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own.  Look for a rehab here:

  3. first of all the not touching thing is not true. birds do not have a sense of smell. second, try to get it back up to the tree and it will find it's way back to the nest.

  4. Leave him alone, the parents know where he is and will take care of him.  This is just the next step in the birds life.  Leaving the nest.  They do not stay in the nest until they are able to fly.  First they fall, or jump, or parents push them out of the nest to the ground.  The parents continue to care and feed the young, even after they learn to fly.  Don't interfere.

Birds will NOT abandon the nest, eggs, or young because a human touched it.  This is an old wives tale.  I have to handle birds eggs every day at work, to mark the dates and cage on them.  The parents have never abandoned them.  I also have done studies with wild birds and they do not abandon them either.

  5. Call the police??? What the...? shouldn't the police be out there catching criminals?

You can call the RSPCA or leave it be - it's nature.

  6. If it is a baby do not touch it with your hands as the mother bird will not come back to her baby because it will smell human on the baby - pick the chick up in a soft cloth and place her back in the nest. If you can't reach the nest you might need to take the baby into a bird lady.

If it is a bird and is injured take her to the bird lady - or if it is a baby bird injured take her to the bird lady.

Look her up in the yellow pages

If you don't live in N.Z and don't know who the bird lady is.

Maybe call the RSPCA or SPCA depending on where you live.

  7. Call the police
