Our pool is 27' across and we have a sand filter. We have added muritic acid and now our levels are all good then we added 10 lbs of granual clorine that was last night - no change in color - this am I added 5 gal of liquid clorine - we are running the filter 24 hours a day. Our levels look good but no free clorine reading. Empting the pool is not an option for us - we have to have it hauled in and that was $600 - any ideas???

  1. There are 2 possible solutions to fix your green pool.  The first is to shock it, add 1 lb of granular chlorine for every 10,000 gallons of water and scrub the walls and bottom if there is algae growing there.  This will kill the algae and then you will need to continue backwashing and skimmin the water until all the dead algae is out.  The second solution is to buy some algeacide and add it to the water.  Same idea here, scrub and filter until the water is clear.  It shouldn't take more than a couple days to clear up.

  2. Since you are still getting no free chlorine readings then you will need to shock again. If there is algae still stuck on the sides of the pool you will need to scrub a couple times a day to help the process. If there is no Algae on side and chlorine holds in pool, then you will need to help your filter out. Sand filters can only filter so much, and many times it will just flow through the sand and back into the pool, never clearing up. You may want to look into a water clarifier to help pull the dead algae together to form larger clumps for the sand filter to pull out. Need to remember to back wash when the pressure gets up 8-10 lbs over normal PSI.
