  1. maby a pleco

if you can find a coldwater one

  2. im assuming algae is the problem?

fish eat algae....but it takes a ridiculous amount of fish to keep a pond clean

just buy some algicide that you initially put in every few days then once the algae is done every week or so

  3. ....algae is an anaerobic plant, favoring low oxygen water

....by circulating the water, vogorously the oxygen levels will rise and algae will not favor growth

....as a prefilter, use some type of screen that strains large pieces of algae and leaves, etc

...then step down to a secondary prefilter of large pored styrofoam

..thusly the water elements entering the fountain type pump will not be to hard for the pump to digest

....also, you have the chance to clean debris from the prefilter screens, that helps eleminate the veggie-tation that is blocking the clear quality of the water

....once the general tank of water is strained, raked, screened, and basically free of large pieces, you can add floculant to the water that will bind to suspended particles, and sink to the bottom as 'silt'

.... perhaps you can create a vaccum using a secondary  pump that sucks up bottom water into a screening filter, that simply gravity flows back to the pond, like as a watefall....

...we have a small 1/4 acre pond in our back yard

...i installed an electric outlet pondside

...I circulate the water as a fountain sometimes, as a waterfall other times....and use a vaccum to clear silt-like debris too

...i send the website where i purchased my 'electric submersible' type pumps (be sure to search for fountain pumps as well as water pumps at the website)

....over the past 5 years the health of the pond has increased considerably

.....now the fish population has increased, wild types of perch and catfish.....turtles also enjoy the easy meals

....we have planted willow trees around various edges and also tall grass and cat tails, we had s couple of 1/2 yard loads of rubble dumped on to the edges of two sides and then backfilled to form flat areas for standing, fishing, sunning, etc, which are shaded by the fast growing willows

.....chaaa, it is worth the work

  4. catfish, snails... certain plants add oxygen to the water

  5. Plecos won't survive out in a pond. They are warm water fish and will die. The Golden Orfe is a bottom feeder fish that can live out in ponds. You could get snails but they tend to reproduce quickly and you will have thousands after a while.

  6. Generally fish just make a pond dirtier by pooping in it. More fertiliser = more algae,

Keeping some fish is fine, but they dont clean. Get a pond filter and change some of the water more often to keep it cleaner

  7. get some snails BIIIIIIGGGG SNAILS lol
