We have a wooden lean to on the back of our house, I was wondering if they will be aloud to tear it down if we complain about the state of it (Wood on the bottom rotting & pretty much falling off) or would they have to fix it?

We rent the house, and have done for about 1 1/2 years and just renewed the tenancy, It was rented with the outhouse there (Looks donkeys years old)

We dont want them to tear it down as we use the space for our fridge, freezer & dryer.

Thanks :)

  1. It is up to the landlord in determining what to do with such. If there is a lean on the home, the landlord will have to handle that issue has other issues concerning the rental home where you live. They are to keep the home updated and in living statis as being the owner to the property.

  2. Maybe = it depends on many factors

Like - will it cost more to tear down than it will cost to fix ?

One suggestion might be to 'volunteer' to help repair it - assuming you get on well with your landlord, see if you can bring it up in conversation - mention (for example) that some of the posts are going & talk about  how 'you' could assist in fixing it (if he provided all the materials)  .. since most Landlords won't have the time to troll around DIY shops buying bits of wood, there's a good chance he'll just pay to have it fixed ...

  3. I am not sure what you are asking, you are complaining about it, but do not want it torn down?

Yes, they own it and can tear it down.    It is not legally part of the property, as in they do not pay tax on it and do not need a permit to tear it down.

  4. Because you don't own the house, you do not have a say in it. You can make suggestions to your landlord, but that is about it. If you want to keep it, ask if you can fix it up or if they would be willing to pay for it while you do it. If the landlord feels it is unsafe or doesnt want it, they have the right to remove it.
