before airplanes were invented a suspension bridge was beign planed to span the george near niagara falls there was no way a boat could carry the necessary cables across teh water teh bridge could not be built untill teh cables span the river one day teh buiders stages a contest open to teh public that solved their problem, the contest was won by a young boy shorthy there after teh cables spaned teh water what contest did they stage and how did they use it to solve their problem?

Kite contest.  The contest was to get a kite across the gorge.  

After the kite was caught on the other side, they ran a stronger string along it, then a stronger rope.  they kept building on the rope till they could build a foot bridge.

they went up river where it was safe to boat across and one party held one end while the other went across the river on a boat and held the other end. they traveled downriver at the same time to the place where they wanted the bridge
