  1. i would leave even if they didn't say it was manditory

  2. wait.

today august 5, 2008 edwardo has mad landfall in texas near the texas and lousianna border and winds are only at 60 mph. their will probably be some damage, but nothing to evacuate.

    heres what you should do

tropical storm or depression- stay inside and prepare for possible power outages. make sure you have lots of fresh water and also tie up things that are loose outside like furnisher

catigory one hurricane- you can wait it out but prepare for some flooding by the water and possibly in your basement. also you should border your windows if the storm has the possibility of having a direct hit in or near your town.

catigory two- border all windows and fill your bathtub with water. have some battery raidos and also something to eat that is healthy and doesnt have to be cooked. keep your refrigerator closed so if the power does go out the cold air can keep the food fresher longer. cover anything outside exposed to winds and also wrap up thing like baby trees so they dont die.

strong cat 2- do all that you should in a cat 2, or you can also evacuate if the center will be near your area

cat 3 or higher. evacuate if near the coast or exposed to winds. border all windows and take everything important like medicines, certificates, and some photos. also dont forget about any pets. you should call ahead and check to see if animals are allowed into an evacuation center, or you and your dog can stay at a reletives or friend out of the storms path. if worst comes to worst your dog will have to go in a kennel out of the storm zone, but this is a last resort. also dont forget his or hers important papers. also prepare for lots of flodding in your neighborhood and possible damage to your house some houses will have severe damage

  3. After riding out Rita a couple of years back,I will leave anytime a hurricane is heading this way. I am from SW louisiana also. The storm is expectd to reach hurricane strength before it makes land fall.I would at least be in a secure building.

  4. I would stay but just in case go somewhere not near the ocean its more safe i live in houston its comming my way tuesday morning tommarow what im gonna do is be safe close all windows keep pets in never go outside or sleep late and wake up in the afternoon!

  5. It at the max will only be a category one..but as i see the paths and all..louisiana will be missed..You may catch some winds around 40 or 50 miles an hour max.but not substained..I have lived from Texas(where I was born) to the florida keys for six years, and now in the florida panhandle for 5 years.. I have been through 19 of these boogers..4 direct hits..and the rest I caught some of the outer feeder bands..this will be the most taht you will catch...I wouldn't bother..I would stay..heck i have for all 19

  6. I'm also on the coast but further to the east, we listen to the national weather bureau and also the local authorities and decide what is best.

In our case we are on high ground, but if I were in the low areas I'd prepare to leave and give yourself time to travel before the others crowd the highways and then you run the risk of getting stuck in non-moving traffic.

That is what happened here in Florida one summer during a hurricane. We stayed home but many left too late and had to return home due to the traffic tie up on the interstate.

Whatever you decide to do gather your important papers bank and medical etc,  put everything in reach so if you must vacate very quickly you have have everything ready.  We start gathering things in June when the hurricane season begins water, nonperishable food etc. It helps beat the run at the stores. Best of luck stay safe!
