this fish can see the line if it is more than .35 mm in diameter so I need a strong line at least 40lb which has a very low visibility.or nonvisible if available ,

  1. catching a fish is all about the fisherman not the hardware, the texas record blue cat was caught on 20 pound mono. you have to work the drag and tire the fish out.

  2. I agree with James W. use your drag. Fight the fish. Pull rank on him.Be smarter than a fish. I would never admit the same fish was beating me.I was fishing for crappie and caught a 11 pound blue cat on 6 pound test. No but really use a braided line like spider wire but be sure you tie it as shown on package or the knot will fail. that's a stupid mistake i made and lost a big fish and my tackle. good luck and happy fishing

  3. I use Spiderwire braided line in the low-vis green color. It's very thin, but works really well. It's not as expensive as some of the other braids either. Since it has no stretch it's a lot easier to get the fish in faster before it heads to cover. I've held onto some monsters on even 10lb braid over rip-rap rocks, and it still didn't break. If you want even greater invisibility use a Flourocarbon leader on it, I usually use Trilene, but with the green color you will probably be okay without it since it's so thin.

It's not likely that you would need 40lb for a 10lb fish when it comes to braided line, 20lb is going to be quite strong enough and is thinner, but if you feel you need 40lb, it will still be a lot less visible than mono and you'll have better luck.

Good luck. Hope you bring him in.

  4. man that sound weird .have u tried braided  line . or just adjust your drag be patience don't try to realm to fast , tire him out.

  5. why do you need 40 lb. line for a 10+ lb. fish???

    anyways... go with fluorocarbon

(i use the seaguar inviz-x or p-line fluoroclear)

  6. Try some Yozuri Hybrid It's really Tough and Has a lot of Stretch and Low memory I stopped a 12foot v bottom boat with a 28lbs thrust motor with 10lbs test The motor was only On 1 speed But this stuff is tough

  7. You must be kidding right? 0.35 mm mono lines beak at around 17 pounds. You can catch smaller tuna with 17lb mono fairly easily and you're worrying about a 10lb fish? Must you horse your fish in? There's a thing called drag on your reel. Please let your drag work for you.

If you fish in places with lots of structures and branches and heavy lines are a must, you can always use braid lines. Braid lines are much thinner than monos in diameter and many are very abrasion resistant.

  8. If that is such a problem there is only one thing you can do, use a braided line for your main line with a fluorocarbon leader, the fluorocarbon on short spools intended for fly fishing is your best option as its got a lower diameter than the other stuff around, seaguar is a very good option for heavy fluorocarbon.(as mentioned above)
