We have adopted a beagle puppy - he is 6 months old. We can not get him housebroken - suggestions?

I will not keep him outside because of neighbors dogs. Other than the problem with not being housebroken, he is a smart & loving puppy. We take him outside anytime we are outdoors but he continues to use the bathroom inside (a few times outside but that's it). What now?

to prevent the territory marking you can get him fixed witch will take away the need and testosterone so he doesnt have the feel to mark what is his. also when you take him outside bring a treat when he goes to the bathroom give him the treat and pet him saying good boy with a nice friendly tone. also beagles can be stubborn they are hunting dogs that making them very barky and territorial.

get some training treats when he/she goes outside give them one tell them what a good boy/girl.    Don't leave water down all the time

this is hard core training you build a box big enough for he/she to fit in but small enough so he/she can't stand and force him to hold it.  I like the first one best

try tying a bell to your door handle teach your dog when he rings it you will open the door my rottie oscar uses his dog bell to go out and he has not gone to the bathroom in the house in monthstry doing this please give me ten points

How often are you taking him out?  A six month old beagle pup needs to be taken out every two hours like clockwork, 15 minutes after eating and immediately upon waking up or playing.  Just taking him out when you are outside doesn't sound like you're getting him out enough and that's why he's having to pee in the house.

You can't blame him if you haven't trained him to toilet properly.

Start from square one and be consistent and diligent and use positive reinforcement to train.  Beagles are very food motivated so be sure to use treats as a reward for going outside, if he has an accident inside ignore and clean it up and adjust when you take him outside.  If he has an accident get a rolled up newspaper and smack yourself with it for not keeping a close eye on your dog.
