Our home has 5 acres and a pole barn and my mother-in-law keeps telling me to fill it with antiques. I DO NOT want to live in a museum but I understand that I cannot turn a farmhouse into something modern. But how do I find a comfortable homey balance between the two without purging tons of money on an interior decorator or designer?

  1. I love antiques, some wonderful creations from another time.

I tend to side with your mother-in-law 60% and you 40%.Using antiques one must remember not to over do,they are wonderful theme pieces.Since you have a poll barn I would set asside an area for the ones not used and keep buying them.

I am an absolute nut for them and extremly biased (can you tell?).I wished I had your problem,I would have a hey day.

    Enjoy

  2. Have a total "theme" idea..........and do it one room at a time...it's not as hard as you might think..........paint is not expensive..........moving walls and mistakes are........so know where your going on the journey........that's the "theme" of the music...........the words of the song you can add........have fun and ask ?'s in here........there's lot of good advice. Use it. I have a question......Is your house a pole barn.......and yes you can make the inside anything your heart desires.....I've done it 7 times at least just for myself and family.......I've always liked the western and oriental themes.......that's what I live in now.........not to fancy.......easy to maintain ........but roomy and fun to live in..........I didn't build it for my friends but for us and so that we could maintain it as we grow old......hint hint
