Jake is about four years old and belongs to my boyfriend. His ex girlfriend had him for the past few years but due to the fact that she is moving we said we would have him. We have now moved him in to our flat - he has a large aquarium with a heat pad and basking lamp. He is in the same aquarium as he has been the past few years. Over the past few days he has become more active. Could this be a sign that he is just trying to settle in and work out his surroundings?

  1. There are three main causes for a snake to be overly restless:

    -Hungry

    -Too warm

    -lack of appropriate hiding places

You should investigate these three factors first.

  2. hes horny

  3. He might be hungry! Get him in a box or another smaller tank (you should feed them in a separate tank) and offer a mouse or rat.

  4. Corn snakes compared to other snake species are usually most active.

However, reading your situation, the most common answer would be that he needs to become comfortable with his new surroundings.

Again, you want to make sure that the temperature, humidity is all where it should be for corn snakes.

Again, take into account also the last time it was fed.

  5. mabe its somin in its diet thats makes it active dont worry about it

    i love corn snakes

  6. maybe he is looking for food that's what snakes do they get active when they are searching for little mice food try feeding him

  7. he could be looking for a female to mate with they usually get active around then

  8. There could be many reasons why he is so much more actice and to tell you the truth you might never know why.

  9. temperature, feeding schedule, and humidity play a large part in a snakes environment.  Snakes are not as adaptable as man and do not tolerate change as well.  When you moved him from one flat to the next you altered his environment.  It will take him time to adjust to his new surroundings, so he is showing signs of stress.  Ensure the temp is correct in the cage for that breed and ensure the humidity level hasnt altered tremendously.  If his envronment is stable monitor him to see if hee calms down, He should adjust gradually.
