Use acid.

Strong vinegar (pickling vinegar) is safe and will dissolve the build-up. Commercial products will work fine but some may damage the finish on your countertops (been there).

Use Lemon Oil,or Scotts liquid gold spray on, let set saturated with it over night. You will be shocked with the results. Another thing is, metal polish. Like silver or copper polish. That gets rid of it also. Be careful of stuff that you need to use gloves with.More than likely they contain acids and will "Etch" the finish . Be care full Byee

Getting vinegar to stay on the crusted on scale can be difficult, I read a tip once which worked well for me - put tissue or kitchen towel or a cloth round the tap (faucet) and pour the vinegar on it - the cloth keeps the vinegar in place over night.

Then you might have to do a bit of gentle chipping at it next day and you might need a few applications if there's loads of scale.

But it does only need vinegar - I don't think you need to use those expensive bottles of stuff. I thought as they were so noxious and un-enviromentally friendly they must really work! So I did try them, but they didnt do any better than vinegar.

If the hard water is that bad and you own the house, you should think about buying a water softner. The lime build up you see on the faucets is also building up in your water heater, furnace, pipes, valves, and toilets. Hard water can lead to some very expensive repairs.

Use limeaway to get rid of what you can see. It's what you can't see that will cause you problems.
