We have full confidence in new-look Team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, says selector Kris Srikkanth – Cricket News Update
The Chairman of Indian selection committee, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
Srikkanth and company announced a 15-member squad for the first two games of the five-match One Day International (ODI) series, starting from October 14, 2011.
While the selectors decided to infuse young blood by picking up leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sreenath-Aravind-c2559, they overlooked off-coloured Harbhajan Singh.
It will be a very important series for the World Champions in a bid to regain lost momentum after suffering a humiliating Test and ODI defeat in their recent tour to England.
In the absence of greats like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453, the young batch of Men in Blue will surely have to perform out of their skins
to give serious competition to the mighty Poms.
However, the Chief selector is confident about his team’s chances in the forthcoming clash, claiming that the committee has named a well-balanced and talented squad for the crucial battle
against the Poms.
“The youngsters performed well in the England series. We have confidence in them and it will be a good opportunity for them. This is the first selection meeting of the new committee and we
had a good discussion. Dhoni and new selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 was with us. We discussed everything threadbare and we have come to a good combination," said Srikkanth who recently earned two-year extension as Chairman of the selection committee.
Srikkanth insisted that the upcoming series is a mega opportunity for the new players to do something wonderful and cement their place in the national setup.
Referring to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s presence in the committee meeting, he shared that the captain is also satisfied with the squad, adding that the selectors chose the best available players.
"We have not compromised on quality, it is a well-balanced side, a rejuvenated one, and even Dhoni is confident we will do well in future," added the former cricketer who served India for
11 years at the international level.
