We have either thrown out or put in zip lock bags all food items. We have never found any infestation other than the moths themselves. We have been using these traps with sticky paper and have caught hundereds of them over this 10 months. We catch them in rooms with absolutely no food. We see very few of them flying around. Help???

  1. There are other moths that could do this.  Indian meal moths are brought in the house with rice, cereal, flour, pet food, candy, etc.  The eggs are on it then they hatch when the food item is in your house.  The moths eat the food until they are adults then fly off.

Inspect all your food carefully and throw out anything that has what looks like real small white spider webs inside the box.

Take all your traps down, an put new ones up, one in every room.  Every day count the number of moths you catch, and you will narrow down the source.  Then concentrate on finding the source in that room.

They could also be carpet moths, which you would get if you brought an rug into the house.

  2. Cedar chips or blocks will keep the moths away.
