We have neighbors that are constantly calling the cops on us but have no claims. What can we do?

The woman calls the cops at least 3-4 times a week and yet there never is any validity in her claims. The cops tell us that they have to come regardless. She's been renting the house next door for about a year now. We've NEVER had any issues with any of our neighbors in the almost 18 years we've been here. Suddenly we're feeling harassed and bothered. We don't want to stoop to her level and call the cops on her, but is there something we can do? This is really getting ridiculous. She's constantly watching everything that we do and calling the cops if we even step outside! An example of a claim that she has made is that she believes there are drug dealers or gang members in our house because there's a lot of people that come in and out.....there are 5 grown children that live in this house, all college educated yet still can't move out!! The woman's driving us INSANE!!!!

You are letting her drive you insane.  If you are as innocent as you say (no music others might consider loud, not taunting the woman, not hogging all the parking spaces, sloppy yard, whatever) just ignore her. So what if the cops visit, invite them in for a cup of coffee and a biscuit.

Have you spoken to her personally?  Sometimes that seems to shock people like that when you make them face you.  On the other hand, if you're arguing with her about it, it's keeping her interested.  I would do the opposite of what you're doing now.  If you're ignoring her, confront her calmly and ask what you can do to resolve the situation.  If you're arguing with her, completely ignore her.  Good luck.

Well, be thankful she is only renting!!  I would complain to her landlord...chances are landlord dosent want a troublemaker for a tenant.  At some point after making reports to cops that go unsubstantiated, i believe the cops can charge HER for false reports.  maybe she is seriously mentally ill.  Nonetheless, send a letter to landlord CERTIFIED for your records in case it gets ugly.

Go to the station,get all records of the police coming out to your address,along with whatever complaint there was.If you can get whom made the complaint,even better,then take that information to a attorney,whom can either take it to court,or to a judge as harassment,but you have to prove she is the one making the calls,then they can issue restraining orders,fines etc.

Call the cops on them for disturbing the peace by calling the cops before you!

The police will come when they are called, which is a good thing. The cops already know that she is not right but like you said they have to come to calls.

1. Its like having free security watch over your house!

2. Your neighbor sounds like she may be a paranoid schizophrenic

3. Continue to go about your daily life, once the cops have to come all the time, they will do something about the harassment themselves.
