We have one afternoon and evening in Barcelona with 3 boys. What must we see?

We've never been before and want to see the sights (not the football ground) without the car and "cenar" in somewhere with a bit of character. The boys aren't babies, and can handle Spanish nights out. We want to make the most of such little time. GRACIAS

Difficult to answer without knowing the ages of your boys but I would suggest Parc Guell. It is a Unesco World Heritage site and has the longest seat on the terrace. Great views over the city and lots of interesting things to see and wander around.

A walk doewn the las ramblas is a must there you can find the human statues, artists, coffee shops, it's a great place to spend time.

While u are there u can also visit "la boqueria mercato" it's a very interesting local market (fresh fruits, juices, meats, sweets & fresh gelato)

At night, go and watch the flamenco show for 6 euros at Torantos, which is also very close to las ramblas, there's a show every half an hour starting 8 i guess.

Not much time.  If you want a place with character, you might seek out the 4 Chats (I think its name is Catalán) where Picasso used to hang out when he first arrived.  I'm not sure if it actually serves dinners, but I think you can get tapas there, and the menus sport some of his artwork.  

Or just about anywhere along the Ramblas...the food prices are the same as just about anywhere, but you really PAY for the liquid refreshement, and you can't just drink the tap water; it's terrible!

I suppose if I only had one afternoon, I'd just go to the church:  Sagrada Familia, the unfinised masterpiece of Gaudí.  It should take up pretty much your time.  If you still have time, get back to Passeig de Gracia, and walk the bottom couple of blocks, from La Pedrera back to Plaça de Catalunya.  Or take a cab to the Magic Fountain, a synchronized light, water and music show (free) which is best viewed from the steps of the Palau Nacional.  Just watch your valuables while there...classic crowd scene with pickpocket issues.

There is the Olympic village stadium still there, this shows the history as well, and includes a trip round the lesser known football stadium also you have Los Rambles lots of Tapas bars, mime and human statues.In the main part of barcelona, also there are all the gaudi buildings and Church, Have a great time and please excuse my bad spelling of Spanish words

Depending on the ages of your kids, you could try the Aquarium, for example. One of the most visited sights in Barcelona, and that can combine with a stroll up or down las ramblas.

I would avoid 4 gats (sorry sue) and try something like Los Caracoles on Calle Escudillers, just off las ramblas, on the corner of nou de sant fransesc. It's the oldest restaurant in Barcelona and serves hearty food - the menus are signed by famous people who have visited and framed on the table (Set Ports does a similar thing with napkins). Then on a night you have to go and see the magic fountains, or better still take the night tourist bus which takes in the Torre Agbar (looks better at night), Sagrada Familia (also amazing at night, looks like a melting candle) and the magic fountains (cheesy, but I still love it and I've seen it about 15 times!!).
