  1. You've most likely got crickets, hehehe...

The dark brown to black crickets are used quite a bit as fishing bait.

Ive seen a lot of what's commonly called a 'camel' cricket under homes...its a light to medium brown color with spots and/or stripes.. at first glance it looks like a spider.

Crickets tend to prefer dark, damp places.  I suspect yours are coming up thru the floor at the plumbing cut-outs.  I'd suggest you use a latex foam to seal around the pipes.  I'd specifically suggest using Dap latex expanding foam.. NOT Great Stuff.  The latex foam will clean up with soap and water, and does most of its expansion immediately.  Anyone who's ever gotten Great Stuff on their hands or clothing will tell you, you almost have to wear it off, hehehe.

At least having a basement will make it easy to foam the cutouts from underneath.. heheh..

Also check the basement for how they are getting in.... any utilities running thru the basement walls?  Check any windows, and along the sill plate (where the wood structure meets the basement wall).  Often there will be some protusions in the wall....dryer vents etc.  (Dont use the foam around a dryer vent... use a mortar mix).  Caulk around windows and doors.

  2. At pet stores they are called feeder Crickets, but that is just what they are, crickets. Just a cricket and they don't bite that I know of. Most bug sprays do not kill them as far as I know. I have learned to live with them. Happy bugs as far as I know. They tend to do their own thing.
