They are brown with yellow stripes, similiar to a wasp but much much larger, does anyone know what they could be? I have a pix of one of them if you email me I could send it to you so you can see what they look like!? Thanks for any help!

  1. If these insects are not bothering you, then I would strongly urge you to let them be.  Pesticides kill indiscriminately. Even though the label may state its for use to control a certain insect, all insects will die when they come in contact with the poison. The honeybee population has been decimated because of pesticide use. Keep in mind, these insects ( which sound like they're in the hornet or wasp family) feed on other insects. They could be doing you a favor!!!  If these insects are effecting you, then  make a mixture of hot sauce and water and spray it on your lawn and shrubs,. Its non-toxic, but very effective . The insect will leave.

  2. SOunds like Yellow Jackets. There are a form of wasp and will, at times, attack with little or no provocation. They build their nests underground. Ortho or any other good wasp and Hornet spray will kill them. You need to wait until just before dark, when they'll all be in their nests before spraying. Empty the entire can down the hole. If more than one hole use a can per hole.
