Question:

We have three cats, and I have a behavior question

We have had 2 cats for about a year or so, and in May or so we adopted a stray female, so now we have three cats. The first two cats know their names, don't jump up where they shouldn't, and are over-all very well behaved cats.

However the third cat has learned her name, but jumps up on the counter. I use Pit'r Pat cat treats, and its pretty expensive. Well this lil girl decided to jump on top of the fridge where I keep it, knock it down, and eat the whole container! It is super frustrating because she always does it whenever we aren't home. But for some reason she always leaves little gray paw prints on the cream-colored counter, and the other cats don't leave that.

So my question is, how do I keep the kitty off the counters??

  1. Put all kitty temptations in a cupboard or somewhere secure where she can't see them. You could also keep her in a different room when you are out so she doesn't get a chance to jump on to the counter.

  2. If I've learned anything from watching Marc Marone, it's this. Double-Sided tape is your best friend! put that on the furniture and places you don't want kitty climbing. They hate the texture and the sound. as for the treats, put them in a drawer or someplace locked where kat can't get it anymore questions, feel free to post back. good luck.

  3. they have different types of sprays at petsmart (where I get mine) for different types of problems.  One of my kitties had a wire chewing problem, a big one, so I bought bitter spray and sprayed it on his main wire source.  he did not like it much (neither did my boyfriend or I because we got it on our hands and it was hard to get off) but i only had to apply it once, he has never bitten another wire.  its not harmful and was very effective.  all of my kitties like to be on tables and I dont mind personally as long as theres not food on the table.  However I found spray that would help keep cats off of furniture and counters and such.  its a smell that I guess they dont want to go near.  I would reccomend using it.  My vet student friend swears by it.  I have never tried it.

    Good Luck.

  4. u can put an exposure electric wire on the counter , so that when she goes there she will take electric shook and will never do that again

  5. Double stick tape and put the treats in a cabinet.

  6. There should be little clicky thingies at most any petstore that (obviously) clicks when your cat jumps onto your counter. Or there's a lot of other devices you can buy that makes loud noises. If you can't find any, you can just find anything that makes a loud noise or makes sudden movements, and put it on you counter. It should be able to turn on when your cat jumps onto the counter. Cats are very sensative and smart, so your cat probably won't go near the counter anymore. You can...maybe use any remote-controlled toys you have around in your house or....?

  7. if this kitty cat is truly a stray, she has probably never had regular meals.  She probably thinks she has died and gone to heaven living with you with all the food and treats.  please just be patient and put the treats where she cannot get them.

  8. Spray bottle.  Just give her a quick shot of water when she tries to get up and she'll soon stop.

If that fails, or she doesn't do it in front of you, put tinfoil all over the countertops fro a couple weeks.  Cats despise the feel of tinfoil under their feet, plus it makes the counter a very slippery surface for them and they slide off.  They also hate jumping to/from anything that slips beneath their feet.  A couple weeks of that and she'll never even try it again.

    Good luck!
