We have two children. Nearer to Calais please as we arrive there mid-afternoon, so don't want to be driving more than 2-3 hours on the first day... Thank you!

  1. Hi

Have a great holiday and safe journey.

Agree with previous reply that Formulae 1 are pretty handy when you are travelling as very cheap and very convenient to roads. They have a good website that you can use to prebook  / get directions. http://www.hotelformule1.com.  There is one located near Calais and a couple nearer Caen if you want to drive for a couple of hours.

However, they are very basic and teh walls between rooms can be very thin - which I find is less than ideal with children.

In terms of other hotels, I would recommend checking out Hotels Campanile / Kyriad. These are usual hassle free but more expensive than Formulae1. Again, there is various in that area.

Best of luck and let me know if I can give more details

  2. You could try the Royhotel Citotel wich is just out side the town of Amiens, and it is on the river somme they accomodate families which is what your looking for.

  3. Try Formule1 hotels or if you want a little extra comfort like an en-suite bathroom go for Etap hotels which will be around £8 more expensive.

  4. A good advice, do not stay in a Formule 1 hotel in France especially as you have children. They are dirty, smelly, uncomfortable.  I would suggest IBIS or CAMPANILE hotels. You usually find a COURTEPAILLE restaurant close to these hotels, very good food for little money.

Look at their web-site, you'll find all the necessary information.

Best to drive up to Rouen, it's about 3 hours drive from Calais. That will make your trip to Brest more pleasant.

  5. You can spend one night in Le Touquet.

It's about 50 km in the south of Calais. It's a beach on "Cote d'Opale". According to me it's the best one in this area.

There are many things to do in the evening, bars, restaurants...

The problem will be to find a hotel during holidays ?

Try in the Ibis Hotel (Or Novotel) which are in front of the beach.

Many things to do in holidays.

If you want to drive more, you can stop in Honfleur (maybe 250-300 km from Calais). It's a charming old Harbour in Normandy, it's on your way to Brittany. Maybe it's too far for you in one day ?

  6. If you want basic but very clean and cheap...you won't find better than the Formula 1. Check them out online and you can find out where the nearest motel to the stop off point you choose enroute. With all motels in France, best to prebook online as they are very few and far between once you get outside the towns...as are public conveniences.....be warned....if you are lucky enough to find any other than at service stations....again few and far between..they are usually disgusting!! Failing Formula 1...Etap are probably the next best value for money, although you can get a family room in Formula 1 for as little as 28 euros a night if you book online and in advance. BON VOYAGE.....
