Sporting president Godinho http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lopes-c22413 has urged his side to concentrate on their upcoming Portuguese Cup tie against Nacional and put the disappointment of being knocked out of the League Cup behind them.
The Lions were unceremoniously dumped out of the League Cup on the 4th of February, which has seemingly left the Portuguese Cup as their sole avenue of gaining some silverware this season.
Coach Domingos Paciencia is under intense pressure to deliver after making some hefty signings during the summer. The Lisbon giants have already bowed out of the title race and the UEFA Europa League is definitely beyond their current reach.
The club are currently going through tough phase, as they look to reach the kind of momentum they showed in the opening exchanges of the campaign.
President Godinho Lopes has voiced his concern over this matter and said that his side must channel their attention on the upcoming Portuguese Cup tie against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nacional-c39984 and get their season back on track.
Speaking in his weekly address to the Sporting supporters, the official said that although the Lisbon outfit had been eliminated from the League Cup, they must not lose their focus and instead look to the game against Nacional.
"We never thought of Sporting getting eliminated from the League Cup but let's look ahead and face the new challenge with determination. This Wednesday we have a very important game and that's what we all have to be focused on.”
He also added that while the Sportinguistas faced a tough task against the Alvinegros, they would try their very best to achieve the goals they had set for themselves.
"We know we still have much work to do ahead but we will achieve the goals we set ourselves."
Lastly he commented on the club’s recent auditing sessions and reiterated that the intuition had nothing to hide, as it was run on transparency and with ethical behaviour.
"It is a clear sign of transparency in management. Hide what from the members? Nothing! We work for Sporting and our members. And for the members we are building a different club with a defined path,” Lopes was quoted as saying.
Sporting take on Nacional at Estádio da Madeira on the 8th of February.
