Can't seem to find anything that will work for this odd size...we live in Toronto...the door leads off of our upstairs back room to a patio.

  1. You have to go to your home center and custom order that size, because its not a standard size a door manufacture carries.

  2. Find a local millwork shop and have one custom made.

  3. I believe you mean 24 wide by 75 high, right?  If so that is a special order door and any Millwork shop should be able to whip out a custom door for you.  My suggestion is contact Kolbe & Kolbe Windows and Doors in Wausau, Wisc.  One of the most incredibly dedicated to detail companies I ever had the pleasure of doing business with.

  4. The reason you can't find anything to fit that oddball size is that no manufacturer makes anything in that size as standard.  The home improvement stores won't have anything in stock, you will have to special order a door made to your specifications.  The easiest and probably the least expensive would be a replacement wood door, called a slab, that  you could stain or paint, whatever would go with your trim.  I doubt that you will find anyone to make a steel or fiberglass door to that size.

  5. I had the same problem, and I found 3 at our architectural salvage company.  I paid $150 for mine. Do you have a similar type of salvage company there?

  6. Take the interior trim off of around the door, now measure between the studs on each side of the door to get the "rough opening width". Now measure from the floor up to the bottom of the header above the door. This is the rough opening height.

Now measure the wall thickness where the door is. You can usually do this by measuring the door jamb. This is the flat inside frame of the door excluding the exterior and interior trim.

Now make a top view drawing showing which way the door swings.

Take this info to your local lumber yard- and have them order a "pre-hung door" to fit this opening. You will need to special order it. but it will be worth it.

Also have the door bored for your lock, if you want a k**b and a deadbolt have them double bore the door - which simply means 2 holes - one above the other.

A good carpenter can take out your old door and install this new pre-hung door easily in 4 hours, should cost $200 or so for labor plus the door, and any new exterior/interior trim you might want. If you want a new k**b and or deadbolt-now would be the time to have it installed also.

    GOOD LUCK

  7. The first question that needs to be asked is how high are the ceilings in the room that it leads out of?  Is there room to put a standard door in IF you toke out more siding? (80x32 for instance?  Sometimes the ceiling is not high enough with enough space to put a taller door in!  The most expensive way to replace it would to order a new door from a company as a special order!  You could advertise to have a Carpenter make it special for you which might be less???   Or you can buy a solid  wood door close to the size you need and cut it down to fit!  If you bought a solid wood door that was made for the interior you can get smaller sizes, but then you would have to put many layers of polyurethane on it to water proof it.
