  1. I'm betting you have trees around your place and even with all the doors and windows closed, you can hear cicadas at night...  True?

The bees you're talking about are actually wasps, cicada killers.  The females sting a cicada and paralyze it.  They then drag the cicada back to the wasp burrow and lay an egg on it.  The larvae feed on the cicada.  The adult wasps eat nectar, like bees, and pollinate plants.

Cicada killers rarely sting people.  Males are more aggressive than females, but males can't sting at all.  Just swat them away with your hand if they buzz at you--they will fly away, embarrassed!  The wasps perform a valuable service, keeping cicada populations in check.  If you can bear it, just leave them alone, they will disappear in about a month anyway.

  2. they are called cicada killers.  Each hole is a separate nest... an insecticide dust placed inside the tunnel will kill the female wasp as she returns to stock the brood chamber. Or any liquid or aerosol insecticide placed on the wasp flying about will kill them.

  3. I had a ton of tunneling bees in the ground, and they attacked my dog. I got rid of those things by pouring gasoline on them, after the sun went down. Never saw another one.

  4. Determine what kind of "bee" you have.

    Yellow Jacket: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellowjacke...

    Hornet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornet

    Bumble Bee: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumble_bee

Yellow jackets and hornets are a problem because they will attack you with little provocation.  You can get them by spraying into their hole at night.  Put a rock over the hole as soon as you spray so you won't get stung.

Bumble bees will only bother you if you really provoke them, such as by stepping on one or running the lawn mower over their nest.  They pollinate flowers, so it is best not to kill them if you can avoid it.

  5. They are probably hornets, in which case you should use a bazooka.

  6. Burn them little b******s!! Just wait until late in the day when they are all in the nest, then ambush them by pouring gas in the hole that leads to there nest & lite it. Run like h**l because when you lite it some fly out ~ they will come after you!!

We also had paper wasp in 3 of our trees ~ we took care of them with bird shot.

  7. moth ball in the hole

do it in the evening when they are in their 'lairs'

    it will kill them,

kind of hate to suggest killing bees but ground bees are a special problem.--

are you sure it isn't cicada killers

they aren't likely to bother you and they do kill cicadas which is cool.

  8. get spray cans of wasp and hornet spray at your supermarket, Lowes or home depot. Wait until it's almost dark or at first light in the morning so they'll all be in the nest and empty the can down the hole. That's the only way to insure you get rid of them.

  9. What do they look like?  Black and yellow?  More yellow than black?  1 1/2 inch long?  1/2 inch long?  More info please?
