  2. Unless the cats are microchipped, there is no way of legally telling whose cats they are. I would ask around to see if they belong to anyone and if not, have them vetted and microchipped so you can prove ownership if you need to.  Check with shelters and vet offices to see if anyone has posted them missing before you take over ownership.

  3. If you feed them, that does not mean they are your pets in the eyes of the law. However, if you do feed them, then the cats will consider you to be their owners and then they will depend on you. Bottom line is don't feed them if you do not want to be fully responsible for them.

  4. No...  all you are doing is feeding the neighbour's cats or possibly stays.

    Pet ownership is a huge responsibility and can have a lot of associated costs.
