We hope Whatmore will enhance Pakistan’s performance: Intikhab Alam – Cricket News Update
Pakistan is hopeful that the appointment of Coach Dav Whatmore will have a positive impact on the team’s performance, particularly in the limited-overs format of the game.
The Men in Green excelled in their recent Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, during which they whitewashed the tourists 3-0. However, what followed were two humiliating defeats, first in the ODI series (0-4), and then the T20 fixtures (1-2).
The end of the tour in UAE marked the end of interim coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571, who has signed a 2-year contract for the position of Pakistan’s
Head Coach.
Former coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380, who was also part of the three-member committee in charge of appointing a new coach for the national team, has great expectations from the Australian-born who coached the Sri Lankans to World Cup glory in 1996.
“I think the missing 'more' in Pakistan cricket will be achieved through Whatmore,” Alam said. “With his perfect record in the past I hope he will enhance the team's performance, though it will take some time.”
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972, has come under fire for their passive, almost apathetic approach in one-day matches. Alam admits that while the coach has the responsibility for guiding and improving the team’s overall performances,
the players need to put in maximum effort as well.
“It is the coach's responsibility to bring more consistency, which is missing, but at the end of the day it is important players also do their best and listen to the coach,” Alam said.
Former Pakistan skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aamer-Sohail-c41418, also expressed his hope that Whatmore would help the team turn their fortunes around in the shorter format of the game.
“I wish him the best of luck in his endeavors and hope that he will take notice of our recent mistakes in one-day cricket,” he said, adding that he hoped that both the team and coach would be able to deal with pressure effectively and unite in order to bring
the team back on track.
