  1. No slam on you personally floridagal for using it, but there IS alot wrong with it and it should be amended fast. But why would it be right HeatherH? Why on earth would the "people" want to take that extra benefit from the "demand" away creating less incentive for adoption, which ultimately creates less profit for the industry.

You're right, it WAS intended to encourage people to adopt from the foster care system. It wasn't written well enough, and lawyers and agencies have found loop holes, it needs to be reformed, because it isn't doing its purpose.

I'm not slaming you floridagal for using it, why wouldn't you? You probably don't even know the origin of the law. So I didn't want you to feel defensive or anything. If there was a law for me as a mother to get an extra annual kickback on the expenses I've paid since my daughters birth, i'd do it too.

  2. Amendments take forever. You are probably looking at around 4 months at least. You can look up www.IRS.gov, there is a page that says, "Where is my Refund?' If you input your info into the site and then call the provided phone number, give them the information that it was your 05 and 06 amendments, they will also want to know the date sent in.  They should be able to give you a ball park figure. Also, you may want to call your State as well to see how long they are taking. Currently our State is taking 6 to 8 months to do this. Ridiculous isn't it!!!

I'm so very sorry that your son is having medical issues. Such a scarey time for a mom to go through.  As far as the tax credit, well you are well deserving for multiple reasons. Another being that if the child had been from the foster care system, all the medical expenses would have been covered. I think it's so unfair that other adoptive families don't have the same resources.  Is there a state medical card that he may qualify for to help with the cost?

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  3. Sorry, I guess you just have to wait the 4-6 weeks.

I don't know anything about the tax credit other than it was intended to be an incentive for people to adopt from foster care and thus reduce the numbers of kids in foster care.  I can't see that it is working as it was originally intended though.

I think the darn agencies just tak that amount onto the 'expenses' anyway (really, I'm not angry at you, I'm angry at THEM - so, yes of course you should get it back - it's already in the agency's pocket and you overpaid them IMO!
