Jessie Jackson, a very sad time at Northern, the ballrom was filled with grieving parents, students and staff and faculty. We need to figure out how to stop this killing of inocent people.

  1. Nut cases? People must enjoy talking of them self's. What is the actual trigger that causes such behavior? It's usually  (85-90%) due to people who judge others because an individual is not as acceptable as higher class people. If things such as this did not exist, it wouldn't be considered life! You say people need to figure out how to stop the killing; I wrote the book "You Figure it Out!" because I got tired of all the different people askin me for solutions, and I become a recluse-hermit type of person. So, I'll say this: "You can not stop fate, but YOU can be an example and be aware of how you and others are towards an individual and worry about how you are towards another; and pray that you are a decent person that if something should ever happen, your life and demeanor towards others will always be an example of how people should be towards another."  Answers are not all ways given, there are parts of life you need to figure out on your own. I'm sure you are a student, so my sympathy goes out to you all that experienced such a tragedy. As long as life exists, there will be death.     AP

  2. NO! Everyone should freaken carry a gun so they can be prepared for stuff like that. At my job, if someone were to do that, they wouldn't go to far, cause everyone at my job can legally carry, and no, not all of us are pigs. Firearms is what made this country in the first place, does anyone know about the second amendment? I guess most of you forgot your rights as an american. Look at WW2, without firearms, the germans would haver taken over, and none of you would exist. You have to fight fire with fire, don't do what japan did, by getting rid of the great warriors that did exist.

  3. Nothing, on that very same day I'm sure other people were killed all across America.

As long as humans live on this world we will never be safe.

  4. get rid of bush. my heart goes out to the affected familes

  5. I am so sorry, this needs to STOP, I think the whole world has gone mad. People love guns, but,If we didn't have them ,it wouldn't be so much bloodshed. Hang in there, and keep your head up. This is a great question to ask the presidential candidates.

  6. Do you go to that school?

I saw that on the news today.

The number one way to prevent these things? Taking action. There are always a telltale number of signs showing that x effected person could easily shoot up the school.

Noone does anything about it. The same with Virginia Tech and Columbine. They were troubled, and people had feelings they would do it..there was evidence that they could easily do something like shoot up their school.

  7. ban guns no civilain should have a gun

  8. Have the Pharmaceutical industry held accountable for dangerous drugs

  9. people who are unbalanced tend to move toward  the irrational extremes of society.  The irrational extremes is what attracts them.  Guns are the American extreme.  There is no society on earth that needs the civilian population to be armed less than America and yet, we are the most heavily armed civil society on earth.  The unbalanced move to that incongruent point.  It gives them a feeling of being important, or being a prophet, or maybe just being.  It is a sad thing.  There are many victims and many suffering from this act.  And, there are a few out there who are envious of the attention.  There is where the seeds of the next event are planted.  Stay tuned.

  10. Better gun laws. People should be able to carry, to protect themselves. What kind of shooter would go on a rampage, knowing that everyone, or most is packing heat? I'm sure all of the liberals would disagree, but you are never going to get rid of guns in America. Even if there was ever a ban. Why must the law abiding people suffer from criminal acts? People kill people, not guns.

  11. Tougher gun control laws and more involuntary psych holds.

Those are the direct answers; they're also the hardest to implement.

  12. Kazmierczak had a State Police-issued FOID, or firearms owners identification card, which is required in Illinois to own a gun, authorities said. Such cards are rarely issued to those with recent mental health problems.

Soundls like the same problem, as the VTech shooter. History of mental illness and still able to legally buy a gun.

    Background checks are not adequate.

  13. Well the first step is to stop referring to them as "nutcases." All of the perpetrators of these recent school shootings/suicides have been victims, yes VICTIMS of mental illnesses that are largely beyond their control. How much worse does it make it to discriminate and talk down to them.

  14. Defend yourself, but be sure that you're legal.  Consult your local law enforcement office to know what defensive weapons are legal.

  15. im so sorry, this is a very sad thing that happened ,but for your question i dont think there is a stop to these sick random people that come out of no where, how do you prevent something like this unless people get there heads evaluated before your accepted into a school, but even then these sick people wont take there meds!! alls we can do is pray!

  16. Ban guns like most sane countries

  17. The only way gun control laws could absolutely stop things like this is if you don't stop at just passing laws.

You would need to go house to house, with military or paramilitary personnel, to confiscate firearms.

Possession of a firearms would have to be a serious offense... a felony with mandated prison time.  And that's not for using, or even threatening to use it.

I know it's a cliche, but "if owning a gun is a crime, only criminals will have guns".  Would you really expect hard-core gangbangers to give up their guns because it's "the law", or they might get 30 days in county (reduced to 1 1/2 due to overcrowding)?

  18. I am so sorry for you and everyone that was affected.  It seems evryone is going crazy these days. Its so sad that we have to fear for our lives and that kids cannot even be safe at their school. May-be they need to have metal detectors put into the buildings. I don't know if this is an answer, but I think it would make everyone feel safer!

  19. Nut cases, murder and innocent people....that's been going on for as long as there were people.

'cept now we just hear about it more and people get all paranoid because an incident happens and they think the "sky is falling".

There is no way unless we go into some kind of police state, in which case, it will be the police that do the killing.

I mean no disrespect to the victims or their families, I just mean to say, it happens and with less frequency that it used to happen.  The only thing we see more of is the hours of coverage on the news media that appear to exist only to feed the paranoia of a public that will soon be too afraid to go outside....of course that's when the police state starts.

  20. WE  ALL  COULD  HELP  BY DOING MORE  PRAYING;  PRAY,  PRAY;  PRAYER  DOES  WONDERS;  THANK YOU;

  21. GUN CONTROL.  No More Guns for sale!

  22. There is no simple answer to such things, but i assure you it starts at home. Teaching your children some respect for life, and letting them know they should do unto others as they expect others to do unto them. Give your kids a hug, its important. For alot of parents its really hard to be there for thier children, even though thats no excuse for bad parenting, some parents just dont have the time. In our present day society family values arent pressed as hard as they used to be. People have to work hard, long hours, while not always necessary they keep parents absent from what they need  to be doing.

Personally i would rather be flat broke then have my children grow up under someone elses care, when children dont recieve attention they grow cold with age. Then theres other factors like abusiveness, and people just not paying attention

    IMO....

  23. I dont know what the answer is, it seems the whole world has gone mad, here in the UK we have had a spate of yob killings on innocent passers by, bring back the death penalty we have gone to lenient

  24. Interesting post by "London lass", who states correctly that violent crime is UP in the United Kindom.

Note that the UK legislated nearly all lawfully owned firearms out of existence years ago AND made it unlawful to defend yourself by force against an intruder IN YOUR OWN HOME.

The National Rifle Association has led the way by strongly encouraging law enforcent agencies, the judicial system, and mental health practitioners to develop a centralized database at the federal agency that must be contacted by licensed firearms dealers before any firearm sale can be completed.  Government agencies being what they are, this is not progressing as quickly as it should.  Write your Congressman.  Certainly NRA's Institute for Legislatiive Action (NRA-ILA) has done its part.

  25. Carrying guns is not always the answer, but banning guns is far worse!

There was another case in which a gunman killed several people at a town meeting in Missouri just last week. There were two police officers present at this meeting and he shot them first, then turned on the City Council members and Mayor of the city, killing several of them. Fortunately, another officer rushed to the Council's aid and dropped the gunman in his tracks before he could kill anyone else.

A gunman who is intent to kill as many people as possible before he gets killed himself can not be stopped even with all precautions in place. It would be thought that two officers at a city council meeting would be enough, but it wasn't!

Certainly, schools should have tight security. This goes for all public meeting places as well, including malls (other shootings have occured at such places).

It is just not feasible that people can prevent all bad things from happening. However, those who believe teaching strong moral values from a very early age have it right. It starts at home! Those who don't get this reinforcement from home should get it in the schools. There has to be a sense of right and wrong taught to people in every institution of learning. No more relativism. I find that there are so few positive things said and reported about our greatest institutions. There is almost a vicious attack on our greatest institutions in America.

Schools are trashed daily with messages of how bad they are, when we have some of the best schools in the world, (elementary and secondary included)!

Government, and our leaders are constantly criticized even when things are going well, and we have the greatest freedoms on earth, and we have enjoyed unparalleled protection here at home over the last few years.

Our military service people are deemed terrorists and thugs, (even though we are the greatest military force on earth, protect much of the world that can not protect itself, and we give more in aid to other countries than any other country in the world).

The economy is deliberately steered downward with constant news of recession, mainly for political reasons, (even though most people are doing well and nearly an all-time record 95% have jobs).

Crime has been going down in record numbers throughout the last ten years, especially violent crime, (yet people are out there constantly complaining of hate crimes, racism, etc. etc., when the actual numbers on these issues are significantly better than they have ever been before).

It is no wonder that people are being driven to depression and rage. When was the last time you heard since 2000,

violent crimes like those at Northern Illinois have been reduced in record numbers? It has just not been reported.

Yet, a slight upswing that is "still lower than any crime rates in the 90's" will get media attention at the drop of a hat.

This depiction that everything in America is so doom and gloom is just pathetic, and I believe it can drive people that are on the borderline, beyond the brink.

It is sad when people snap, for whatever reason. So many others have their lives affected forever!

  26. Such events are already exceedingly rare although you'd never know that from the sort of media coverage they get. You will NEVER eliminate them entirely but better mental health services might help. Another thing is to get people to pull their heads out of the sand and realize IT CAN HAPPEN HERE too. I guarantee there were people who saw the signs but let him continue to decline because they didn't want to get him "in trouble".

  27. Reagan cut the budget for psychiatric assistance and the US Supreme Court let all the homeless on the streets to fend for themselves and panhandle and the dangerous lunatics to roam among us.

Also, in order to get a permit to own a gun in most countries, you need a letter from a doctor to certify that you aren't insane.

Maybe if we had a national healthcare system some of these people would be detected and hospitalized before they kill.

  28. you country needs tougher gun laws.

  29. Let professors carry guns and the rest of the faculty, it is just the way it has to be liberals, stop letting our children be killed because you wont let faculty carry guns to stop whakcos in their tracks. So simple a monkey  can understand! What the h**l is it gonna take until liberals wake the F up and stop the slaughter in our schools?

  30. We have the same problem with criminals invading our lands in the middle east, you just have to deal with it the best you can like the people in our part of the world do, I guess.
