We keep insisting on alternative fuel sources, then why are we wasting money to develop cars for 2050?

The money system works that way and that is the biggest problem.

What we need is water as fuel or (magnetic motor) and cars made of plastic. The inventions are already done.

Ha! There is no rational answer. They are thought up by either

(A) people who want to hide their heads or (B) people who want to keep type (A) ignorant and quiet.. All the people in either group know the Laws of Thermodynamics; know you have to lose energy each time it is transformed. All the alternatives use fossil fuel to obtain, refine, and ship any alternative. Everything  announced so far is all a magic show-smoke and mirrors. Your error is in assuming that the avowed purpose of our planners and their real purpose are the same.
