Having been the in-form team in the inaugural Big Bash League, Katich understands the ill feeling among the players but was not blind to the side's shortcomings, admitting that the team got what they deserved. He attributed the poor showings to a lack of preparation – the players have not played together since being beaten by Sydney Sixers in the final of the BBL.
"We got what we deserved," Katich said. "We didn't prepare as well as we should have, and we paid the price."
"I'm not going to go into details about that, but we got what we deserved, simple as that. We haven't shown what we're capable of in this tournament. We had a very good Big Bash last year, but in this tournament we've let ourselves down. The platform was there, the execution wasn't."
