  1. I think having a young family and living in Perth is quite a good idea unlike if you were young and single then it's one of those places you can't wait to get out of.

We have very good weather, beaches are amazing, alot more quieter and safer compared to Sydney so really you have nothing to lose :) oh except it's not the cheapest state to live in especially when raising a family but other than that it is pretty good.

    Good luck

Haha oh and yeah we love our footy to, ( Freo ;) )

  2. I went from Sydney to Perth and returned.  Perth is beautiful no doubt about that and very family friendly but it depends on the type of job that has been offered.  You will find that the biggest and best of everything (unless mining) is in the Eastern States.

If you have problem with car parts etc it takes days to get from the Eastern States.  Plus the WA Govt or as a State is about 20 years behind the Eastern States e.g. they still have late night shopping on Thursday nights and they refuse to have extended trading hours.  No day light savings because some farmers etc (and get this, true I kid you not, think that if daylight savings comes in the cows won't give milk, that was a genuine reason given) that is the mentality of most WA Locals.  Further, they have a joke that says WA stands for Wait Awhile, which is not really a joke because that's exactly what you will be doing for just about everything.

My advice would be if you or your partner (whoever has the job offer) unless it's got something to do with mining don't go.  You will regret it.

  3. We have lived in Perth our whole life, we love it not as busy as Sydney but a great life style. Slower but living by the beach is great. Housing prices have gone up but compared to Sydney probably quite comparative. Give it a go.

  4. I don't have a family, but I'm a student and I love living and studying in Perth. It's not a huge city, spread out over a large area with many smaller suburbs, and it's easy to navigate, especially with the new train which was recently built. The fuel is also a bit cheaper over here compared to Sydney prices, so when you combine that with housing prices you'll find that in terms of cost it's not that much different to living in Sydney.

It's a lovely place and personally I'd think it'd be great for a young family. Take that job!!

  5. Generally speaking the wages are higher and the jobs are far easier to get, but then costs are a bit higher, so it balances out a bit.

Perth is mainly suburban, which is good for family life.

It's about as sprawled out as Sydney but less high density areas.

Usually the closer to the River you are, the more expensive the accommodation. Areas like Peppermint Grove, Mosman Park, Dalkieth, Bicton, Applecross, Crawley thus are only for the mega millionaires.

There are some bargain areas within the number 2 transperth zone, like Forrestfield, but usually if your wanting cheap accommodation you have to look in the expensive transperth zones of 3 and above.

  6. It is a great place for a family, i have lived in Sydney , but still prefer to come back here to the West to live,

Its a great place to bring up kids, lots of space and garden areas unlike Sydney,

(dont take any notice of the person bored, dont know how long ago they lived over here, )we do have day light saving, and i live in Mandurah which is one hour out from Perth and most of the year around except in winter we have shopping centres open 7 days a week.thanks to the new train line , people come down here from Perth on the train for the day, and there are more things to life than footy also over here

  7. Living in Perth is great, its one of Australia's best kept secrets even from Australia itself. Great education system and great opportunities. The vibe is great in the city and the suburbs are very kid friendly, with lots of things to do.

House prices are expensive but not much more then houses in Sydney. and i hope you like your footy cause we are... well you could say obsessed with it.
