More jobs in production will even out the higher cost of production because more people will have higher salaries. The cost of production is all relative to the competition. If we cut out the competition it wont matter. Why are we allowing over populated countries to take our job?

  1. You can always tell the white collar types. They're always for importing everything from other countries. You see, this is why the middle class is disappearing. There aren't jobs for us blue collars anymore. Everyone thought we were dispensable. Now they're seeing what happens when people can't get work. We're standing on your doorstep, waiting to get our jobs back.

You need some imports, but our country was much better off when "Made in America" meant something.

Here's what they need to do: high penalties on any U.S. company that has its good made outside the U.S. They can have them made elsewhere, but one way or another, they should cost more than American made goods.

  2. Well this wouldn't be much of an issue if we could just figure out some better things we could export.  The only thing that kept our economy going during the 2000s has been this housing and financial bubble - hardly a foundation for long-term economic progress.

Protectionism doesn't work very well.  It would cost consumers far more in higher prices than the increase in jobs and wages we would get.  We would be better off by unionizing the Wal-Marts and Targets of the world since they can't move those jobs overseas.  The increase in wages brought on by retail-sector unionization would far exceed any price increases for most people.

  3. Banning imports is bad for the country because  we automatically are in disadvantage because we cannot obtain products that we are not good at making.  Since we have to make products that we are not good at making. We therefore are increasing the costs and is not efficient. This because we don't have the infrastructure, materials to make it, or want to do the job.  If you look at Europe not many people wants to be

a doctor so they have to import them.

People trade because of competitive advantage.  Every person have different strengths some might be good at cooking while others are good at hunting.

We use there strengths and trade with them.  One will make the hunter hunt for the food so the cooks can cook them when they trade there is more food for both to eat. If we make the cooks and the hunter fend for themselves there would be less edible food. This is because the hunters don't know how to cook and the cooks don't know how to hunt. Even if they knew how to cook and hunt it would also be costly cause they will have to each have their own tools and less edible food.  Therefore it is better share.

That is why there is specialization.

I know this is a text book example.

Think about the whole world there are somethings that one country is better at doing than another country.  If you cut trading  it becomes inefficient this is because costs go up.

Countries export because they have too much of it or because they don't have the infrastructure to make use it.

We import because we can't make it, or they do a better job at producing it, so we buy it.  This is because it is cheaper and more efficient.

Maybe the U.S. can fend for themselves but they can cut costs by making another country do that work.  The U.S. can then focus on doing the things that they are good at.  Thus can sell the extra goods to the countries that want it.    If a supplier cuts their costs. the buyers can buy those products at cheaper price.  Cheaper prices benefits us the consumers.

In summary we are letting over populated countries "take our jobs" because it is efficient for them to do those jobs.

If you want to do your part in ending imports don't buy any foreign good.

  4. no

  5. No, unless you dont want items from out side the country, like gas, oil, food.... the list goes on.

  6. If we seal our borders, other nations will do the same. The result of such can be seen by looking at the era of the Great Depression.

Capitalism requires expansion. Seal the borders and that expansion dies. The problem isn't imports, rather the problem is capitalism itself.
