The Manchester United winger has urged his Great Britain teammates to step up their game or risk losing out in their own backyard.
Stuart Pearce’s side came into their opening match of the Olympics burgeoning with confidence but were unable to grab the all important win.
Senegal were their opponents for the night and they frustrated the Britons by using the physical aspect of their game to great effect.
However, it was the home side who took the lead first, with Ryan Giggs’ free-kick causing havoc in the box. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Bellamy-c9471 took advantage of the distraction and rattled in the opening goal, much to the delight of the Old Trafford crowd.
With the lead on their side, Great Britain pressed on to seal the win but the 2nd goal remained as elusive as ever. Right when they thought that the game was done and dusted, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Senegal-c3001 struck beautifully with Moussa Konate notching the equalizer,
after leaving Jack Butland stranded.
Giggs tried to urge on the team as the skipper, but it was of no great consolation as the referee blew for full-time and Pearce’s troops ended the ninety minutes on a sour note.
Having been used to accumulating trophies, the 38-year-old has now reiterated the importance of improving their performance or risk getting an early exit from the tournament.
"We’re going to take the positives; we know there is work to be done. It’s our first full competitive game so fitness wise we’ll be better going into the next game, we’re going to have to improve if we’re going to get through the group.”
"I think overall a draw is a fair result, they had some decent chances but obviously we’re disappointed with going one nil ahead and not being able to hang on. We’re going to have to win one of the next two games,” the veteran attacker was quoted as saying.
Great Britain now face a stern test of their abilities against the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 at Wembley on the 29th of July and considering how they performed yesterday, an upset could well be on the cards, unless there is a major turnaround in their
fortunes.
