We must win against Zenit, says FC Porto's James Rodriguez – UEFA Champions League News
FC Porto’s James Rodriguez claims that his side must win against Zenit St.Petersburg in the UEFA Champions League. The Dragons will have to secure three points against the Russian club in order to progress and the midfielder has reiterated the importance
of a victory.
Much was expected of FC Porto in Europe’s elite competition after they were able to conquer the UEFA Europa League in May. The Portistas steam rolled all opposition and ended up as winners in Dublin under the tutelage of Andre Villas-Boas.
While it was thought that the club would at least put on some decent displays this term, reality has been quite different and Vitor Pereira’s men have actually struggled this time.
Their only wins have come against Shakhtar Donetsk and even the likes of APOEL have shown what it takes to beat the Portuguese giants.
Their situation on the domestic front has not been positive either and the club currently lies second behind Benfica in the standings.
Having been knocked out by Academica in the Portuguese Cup, their avenues of earning silverware are closing down fast and it is highly likely that the Dragons will end up empty handed when the campaign concludes.
Poor results had placed pressure on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684, if the team failed to acquire three points at the expense of
Shakhtar.
However, the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hulk-c16436 showed their class and eventually cruised past the Ukrainian outfit with a 2-0 scoreline. Now looking to continue their momentum, the club are in a must-win situation and will have to taste victory against Zenit in order to progress
from the group stages.
While that is a task easier said than done, James Rodriguez claims that the team are confident and are playing quite well ahead of the crunch tie.
Speaking to reporters, the Colombian International said that they must secure three points against Zenit and wanted everyone at Estadio do Dragao to be passionate and urge on the players.
"We must win the game with Zenit. We want everyone to be in the stadium to support us and be with us throughout the game.”
He also that although the side haven’t been able to perform at their very best in the last couple of games, but they had improved quite a lot and their recent wins had given them the confidence to fight for a home win.
"The group is very confident. We were not good early on, but the two victories were very important to us and because of them, the team is playing much better. We are in good shape and we hope that we can replicate last season's performance,” James Rodriguez
was quoted as saying.
