Hey..not asking for money. My daughter is multiply disabled and we live in a 2 story home. She weighs almost 80lbs now and it is really hard to carry her up and down the stairs for baths. She has a waiver that is paying for $10,000 of the stairlift (YES, they really do cost that much..I couldn't believe it!) but we have to come up with about $2000. Hubby is in school full time and works fulltime so he has no extra time to get additional work and with her health needs I can't work. I have to be available at a momemt's notice for her and have never found a job to accomodate that.....SO, anyone have good ideas for fund raisers or know of any funding sources that we could utilize. She has Medicaid and they don't cover stairlifts...apparently it's not medically necessary for her to be CLEAN. The lady from medicaid told me just to give her spongebaths...I told HER to take spongebaths for a week and see how SHE felt...anyway, I digress. Any ideas?

  1. why not look to private organizations salvation army, your local church. I know you dont want to take out any loans .

  2. Try local charities...United Way, Salvation Army.  Is she in school?  If so ask the school about grants.  Or is all else fails get a 0 interest credit card and then pay it off slowly (but before the 0 interest runs out).  Good luck.

  3. could you go to a united way? or area on aging?, they might help,, mabe it would be cheaper to just have a bathroom put in on the 1st floor of the house,

  4. How about a used Chair stair lift?  Check Craig's list if that is an option. A neighbor here had a stair lift for his wife. Who passed away. And he was like what am I going to do with it now. I suggested going to Craig's list to sell it and he did. It's an option cheaper.

  5. try to build a bathroom on the ground floor

  6. You could have a bake sell(cakes, cookies, pies, etc.) anything you can conjure up and display a sign explaining why you are having a bake sale. At the same time you can offer your services to the public, for example cleaning their house or yard etc. Be creative. God will bless you when you need him most. Just ask him and believe that he will answer you.

  7. i hate credit cards but cant you just put the two thousand on a credit card and pay it off asap

  8. how about a home equity loan? then you could pay it off from money earned from fund raisers. i saw someone selling paintings her autistic daughter made on ebay for $1.00 each to help pay for her care. i don't know how successful she is, but it's worth a try. good luck and god bless you.

  9. Their is a website called the SpecialKidsFund that you might check out.

You may also check out the some of the social organizations such as the Elks Club, Lions Club and Shriner's.

This problem is going to go on for years, so the suggestion of moving to a one level house is not a bad one. However, if you can come up with the money, then you don't need to sell.

Another way to get money is to go to the Prosper website and borrow money. It is a very interesting place where you can set the terms of what you can pay for interest and then individual people loan the money. Check it out.

  10. Consider buying one on the secondary market, i.e., craigslist, ebay, or from a dealer that you can locate online.

Hope this helps.  I'm researching one right now that is a top-of-the-line model for $650.  I'm very handy and think that I can install it myself.

  11. bake sale, grage sale
