Question:

We need a car service from Guadalajara to Dolores Hidalgo.?

Eight of us are flying in/out of Guadalajara but spending the week in a house outside Dolores Hidalgo approx. 3.5 - 4 hours away (near San Miguel de Allende). We don't want or need a car while there as we have access to a local driver. But we do need a ride to/from the airport. Is there a car or van service that is safe and reliable? Can it be arranged ahead of time from the states? Any idea how much it might cost (each way and/or round trip)?

  1. You can rent taxi vans at the airport - probably between $200-250 with tolls and gas

  2. A month ago, we flew into Guadalajara and drove to the West coast, stayed for a week, and drove back.

If you don't need the car, you can arrange for a bus before you get to Mexico.  Most buses leave on the southeast side of the city and have regular schedules, contrary to most countries to the south.  You can even reserve your tickets online.

One thing to keep in mind is that it will cost around $350 a week per car with Mexican insurance.  A bus one way per person will cost $35 - $45.  Plus, the taxi rides/buses to a from the airport from the bus terminal, etc.

I am really happy we rented a car to be honest.  It allowed us to move at our own pace and schedule.  Plus, we got to hang out in Guadalajara for two nights and not rush the next morning.
