  1. Make it a very nice note telling him or her how much you enjoy working there, (if U do).  Otherwise while you are waiting to be fired look for another job before sending the letter.  Have you ever thought of working harder and making that job more important?  That kind of work will get you a raise much faster than a letter questioning that Dr's intellect.  Think B 4 U leap!!!!!

  2. Talk to him in person, not via a letter.  Its harder to do but also harder for him to say no.  If he is very busy tell him you'd like a few minutes to talk to him when he is not to busy and ask when would be a good time.

Then just talk about all the things you do, try to be specific giving examples of stuff you have done to help out, also if you can figure what what others in your situation earn (with your experience) and show that you are making less this would really help (this data is available sometimes online is different sites - just try to google "salary for receptionist in san diego" or whatever and wherever you are).

Also practice, practice, practice what you will say, and all responses to anything he may say.  Be super prepared for whatever he may bring up.

    ...and best luck.

  3. You don't ask, you negotiate.

  4. You don't need to write a letter. Go in and tell him that times are tough and you need a raise. You might have to give him something he wants to get what you want. Thats often how it works. Its only fair.
