  1. look into:

    1. Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky

    2. The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

beyond these i recommend checking out barnesandnoble.com and amazon.com for all sorts of newer books.

    good luck.

  2. The Dragon Queen-By Alice Borchardt

  3. The Shadow of the Wind

    Author:  Carlos Ruiz Zafon

    Published 2003

    This was a best seller.

This excellent book fits all your criteria, I do hope you read it!

  4. Chasing Harry Winston is a good book. I've forgotten who wrote it, but she wrote Devil Wears Prada. It's alot like s*x and the City, a group of metropolitan women looking for love. Quite light-hearted.

  5. You could try this site.

    http://www.infoplease.com/ipea/A0921454....

It has all the best selling books from the years you want them in.

  6. Try Jodi Picoult.  I would recommend Nineteen Minutes or My Sister's Keeper.

  7. "Freakonomics," S. Levitt, is outstanding education about learning to earn, how economics really works, and is well-written.  [2005]

"Expecting Adam," Martha Beck, is well-written (she wrote a column for "Mademoiselle"), humorous, warm, and profound.  [Oops, published 2000.  But still worth mentioning.]

"Liberal Fascism," Jonah Goldberg, has excellent insight.  [2007]
