  1. What you need is a camcorder that has manual audio control.

    The least expensive camcorders - of which I am aware - that have manual audio control are the Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HC7 and HC9.

    The Canon ZR800, 900 and 930 each have mic-in jacks, but no manual audio control. Without the manual audio control, loud audio will clip and sound very muddy.
