We need to tighten up our fielding, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 – Cricket News Update
The Deccan Chargers' captain, Kumar Sangakkara, has urged his side to improve its fielding, as the winless Chargers gear up to play a fancied Kolkata Knight Riders in their fifth match of the ongoing fifth instalment of the Indian Premier League at Cuttack,
on Sunday, April 22, 2012.
Having suffered four defeats in a row, the 2009 IPL champions are still in search of an elusive win this season. Speaking to the media reporters ahead of a crucial match against KKR, Sangakkara agreed that fielding has been their weakest link so far in the
tournament.
“Ground fielding has not been good so far. We need to tighten up our fielding… We have dropped quite a few important catches and those cost us,” said the wicketkeeper batsman at the pre-match press conference on Saturday.
“...no one likes to drop catches. Mistakes do happen… That’s part and parcel of every game...you have to accept it and make a strong comeback in the next match,” he added further.
Analysing his side’s performance in the last four games, the left-handed top order batsman said that they have failed to build partnerships, insisting that they would have to capitalize on starts if they want to break the losing streak.
“When playing a T20 match, the partnerships, even if it is a small one, matters. So we need to strike good partnerships and capitalise on our starts."
The Sri Lankan is expecting a tough contest against Gautam Gambhir’s Kolkata Knight Riders, who sit fifth on the points table with 50 percent record in six outings.
“They are a great side. They are very strong in every department… it will be a tough contest for us,” said the Chargers’ skipper when asked where does he rate KKR as opponents.
The wicketkeeper batsman expressed confidence in his side’s bowling, however, he did ask the bowlers to give just five to ten percent more in Sunday’s game against Knight Riders.
The Chargers’ skipper also praised the spin department, especially http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Mishra-c871. Asked if four defeats on trot have affected his side’s morale, Sangakkara said that the defeats have brought team together.
